Jon Butcher Axis performing in concert Sun. Oct. 9 Boxboro Massachusetts

Jon Butcher will be performing live in concert on Sunday, October 9th, on the main stage outdoors at the HighLifeStyle Show in Boxboro Massachusetts. This will be a great opportunity to see one of the most popular musical groups of the 1980s in action. Jon Butcher Axis was known for their powerful guitar work and catchy melodies, and they always put on a great show. If you’re a fan of classic rock, you won’t want to miss this concert.

Many people have drawn comparisons between early-career Jon Butcher and the iconic Jimi Hendrix. This is largely due to Butcher’s onstage appearance and mannerisms, which were modeled after Hendrix, as well as his decision to name his band Axis – a reference to Hendrix’s album Axis: Bold as Love.

Richie Havens, John Lennon, Phil Lynott, Bob Dylan, and Taj Mahal have all been cited as influences by Butcher. He has stated that the comparisons to Hendrix are superficial, saying that they are only based on his appearance and vocal style.: “… outside of the surface aspect, I don’t think there was much about me that was Jimi Hendrix-like if you disregard the fact that I’m black and play a Stratocaster.”

Grammy-nominated guitar player Jon Butcher is one of the select handful of influential recording musicians who emerged from the legendary New England music scene. He released their first and self-titled album, The Jon Butcher Axis, in 1983 and went on to release numerous hit records and live performances. His musical career was defined by his incendiary live shows and MTV music videos. These days, he continues to tour and perform around the world and is considered one of the most influential guitar players of his generation.

Jon Butcher’s signature sounds feature his powerful soul-infused vocals; and his guitar play reflects a skilled mix of rock, funk, jazz, Americana, and blues, all of it focused through a prism built from the blues. His powerful live performances with bandmates, Chris Martin (bass), Jeff Keithline (guitar), John Anthony (drummer), and Marty Richards (drummer) are electrifying and no surprise playing to packed venues everywhere.

The new album GYPSY CARAVAN, written jointly by Jon, Sal Baglio (The Amplifier Heads, Tom Hambridge & The Rattlesnakes, The Stompers), and renowned composer Allen Estes, will be released in 2022. There will be 11 brand-new tracks on GYPSY CARAVAN, including rock blues, acoustic blues, and songs with soulful and acrobatic guitar playing by Jon. The release is anticipated around September 2022.

Says Jon,” This is a great record, strong, soulful and above all it has its roots in the Blues. I haven’t done a band collaborative thing since Leland Sklar and I were in Barefoot Servants. Making GYPSY was electric and so cool on multiple levels. And an opportunity to finally record with two of my best friends!”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Jon’s creative output is still on fire with his discography of 21 LP and CD International releases, critical praise, and stellar reviews of Jon Butcher 360° and 2021’s hit album SPECIAL DAY.

Watch for BUTCHER, BAGLIO & ESTES’s GYPSY CARAVAN album, which will be released everywhere in the fall of 2022.

Allen Estes muses, “What do you get when three veteran Boston/New England singer/songwriter, musicians and performers get together and make a great big beautiful noise?” ” GYPSY CARAVAN, that’s what you get. Stories from the road and beyond..”
